Wrap-around care
A look at the latest pump, sensor and apps from
Medtronic Diabetes Care.
With a history
of innovation,
Medtronic's MiniMed
780G is the company's
most advanced insulin pump system
to date. With their next generation
Continuous Glucose Monitoring
(CGM), comprising of a transmitter
and a sensor, and known as the
Medtronic Guardian 4, the CGM
sensor has been updated and
requires no finger pricks*.
You might want to discuss with
your HCP to see if you're eligible
for the MiniMed 780G insulin pump
system. The system automatically
adjusts and corrects insulin delivery
for you, 24/7, every five minutes, as
needed. This helps to prevent highs
and lows with less effort on the part
of the user. It also helps you achieve
a time in range (TIR) above 70% and
an HbA1c below 7%1-4. Due to its
sophistication, the system can help
you to keep your glucose values in
range, even if your carb counts aren't
exact, making it ideal for anyone
who's not so great at guesstimating
carbs on their plate.
The insulin pump system also has
Smartphone connectivity so you can
easily track your real-time glucose
levels and get notifications on your
phone if you are going high or low.
Plus, nominated persons can receive
notifications on Carelink Connect
app, which has primarily been
designed for caregivers and HCPs
to access.
In for a Penny
Medtronic's all-in-one Penny app
launched a few months ago. The
app was nick-named Penny in its
development stages after one of the
characters in the smash 'boffins and
geeks' TV series, The Big Bang Theory,
and the name just stuck.
This is the app for all of the
supplier's support services for
users of its insulin pump and CGM
products. It pulls together all the
company's resources from its
website as well as additional services.
From FAQs to ordering your own
replacement beltclips and sensors,
arranging a holiday loan pump,
viewing your pump data in a new
snapshot 'CareLink Insights' and
personalised resources. The latter
includes helpful notifications and
article suggestions tailored to your
own needs and based on the device
you are using.
The app offers a link to
Medtronic's online shop, ways to
connect to the wider community via
social media channels and even an
'immediate answers service' designed
to help you get the answers you need,
when you need them, without having
to spend time calling the support
helpline. Forgotten how to insert a
sensor? Look up the video on the
Penny app to refresh your memory.
