TARGETS ADVISED FOR TIME IN RANGE
A conference on Type 1 diabetes and
exercise was held in early November in
Worcester. SporT1Day is the only diabetes
and sports conference led by athletes who
have Type 1 diabetes. The conference
offered structured education from Dr Parth
Narendran, one of the UK's leading expert
diabetologists on sport and exercise.
Chris Bright, founder of The Diabetes
Football Community and Paul Coker,
founder of www.1bloodydrop.com
organised the event. Between them, they
have lived with Type 1 diabetes for more
than 60 years. Bright is a semi-professional
soccer player who also has national caps
for Wales for playing Futsal (the official FA
version of 5-A-Side football), while Coker
climbed Kilimanjaro with a team of fellow
Type 1s and, to celebrate 40 years of living
with Type 1, ran 40 half marathons in a year.
Bright says, "It was an incredible event
that brought together people with Type 1
diabetes and their families from all over the
country to talk about the topic of sport
and exercise. We invited some incredible
HCP's and athletes with Type 1 to share
their recommendations and stories in
a jam-packed day of talks. It was an
exciting day which showed the passion
in the diabetes community for events like
this which inspire, educate and support
people with the condition to continue or
start exercising."

BE UPSTANDING
Lovely to hear from reader Liam Russell
who contacted us to say that he had been
able to use an article published in our April
2019 issue. Our On Your Feet news report
explained the benefits of trying to reduce
the amount of time you spend sitting
down, and included the benefits of using
a 'sit-stand' desk if you spend a lot of time
working on a computer. He emailed us to
say, "wanted let you know I got my sitstand desk today and I'm delighted to be
sending you this email while standing here
at my desk - see attached selfie. Thanks
for all your help with this." See the original
article on page 14 of THIS ISSUE.
