KIT
INSULIN PUMP
OVERVIEW 2019I
n the last 12 months Animas
officially left the UK market,
and we also saw Cellnovo go
into liquidation. So bringing
an insulin pump to market is
no mean feat. Some people complain
that Medtronic, with the lion's share
of the pump market in the UK, and a
massive profile in the US where it is far
and away the primary pump supplier, is
too dominant. Yet users can probably feel
secure in that the business seems to be
solid, so not about to fail any timei soon.
But no company is 'too big to fail.'
For all that making a success of
bringing a pump to market is far from a
dead-cert, the fact is that this year there
have been four new pumps. A year ago
Tandem's t:slim pump was barely off
the chocks. While ViCentra's colourful
Kaleido patch pump to the country only
really occured this year. Roche Diabetes
Care is soon to bring its own patch pump,
the Solo. This overview is, as far as I am
aware, a comprehensive list of currently
available insuiln pumps in the UK. Where
a pump is SAP (a sensor augmented
pump), it is stated. See pump supplier
websites provided for more details, sion of
infusion sets. This article is for information
only, please talk to your HCP if you are
interested in going on an insulin pump. In
alphabetical order by the manufacturer's
company name. - Sue Marshall
