No pricks!
Dexcom Inc, the global leader
in real-time continuous
glucose monitoring (CGM)
for people with diabetes,
celebrated Diabetes Awareness Week
in mid-June by opening a'No Pricks
Parlour', a pop-up ice cream van at
London's South Bank.
Visitors and passersby were
offered a complimentary 'Prickin'
Delicious' ice cream (a green cactus
flavour made with aloe and notes of
orange), and also had the opportunity
to learn about new innovations in
diabetes technology and the benefits
of CGM in particular.
On average, people living with
diabetes who do not have access to
CGM will need to prick their fingers
up to 10 times daily to measure their
glucose levels, but with Dexcom
CGM, people with Type 1 diabetes
can know their glucose level with
a quick glance at their smartphone
app and see where it's headed,
without having to prick their fingers.
Furthermore, the recent update
to NICE guidelines, which now
recommend that all people with
Type 1 diabetes are offered a choice
of glucose sensors, means that
more people than ever before will
have access to this game-changing
technology.
A few Dexcom 'warriors' also
stopped by the 'No Pricks Parlour' to
join the celebrations and share their
diabetes stories, including comedian
Ed Gamble, who commented: "I was
diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes age
13, and I used to prick my finger
several times a day to stay on top
of my glucose levels. Since using
Dexcom CGM, taking care of my
diabetes has been easier and given
me more time for the things I love
to do. Greater access to diabetes
management tools - like Dexcom's
