Giant ostrich eggs are making their
annual appearance at selected Waitrose
branches. Weighing 2 kg (4.4lbs), one is
equivalent to 24 large hen eggs. With a
distinctive light flavour and texture, it takes
50 minutes to perfectly boil one egg,
making a great centrepiece with toast
or asparagus soldiers, or makes enough
scrambled egg for a family get-together.
Part of Waitrose's range of speciality eggs
(the largest selection at a UK supermarket)
they cost £19.99. However, the rest of
the range includes delicate quails eggs,
Braddock Whites duck eggs and Old
Cotswold Legbars hen eggs as well as
turkey eggs, which are available until midAugust, priced at £2.99 for two eggs.

These ostrich birds lay from March through to early summer,
roaming on pastures on a Lincolnshire farm allowing them
space to express their inquisitive nature.
