#livingdiabetestogether
Meanwhile, BD (Becton, Dickinson
and Company) launched a
#livingdiabetestogether campaign on
World Diabetes Day on 14 Nov 2020.
The company stated that, 'The lives
of those living with diabetes are centred
around, and coordinated by, a medical
team ¬- in particular, a diabetes nurse.
Nurses are with their patients every step
of the way, offering support and presence
when things are difficult, share in joys and
successes, and have for many become
mainstays and confidantes along the
daily diabetes journey. This nurse-patient
relationship is essential allowing the
correct care to be given daily, so that each
person living with diabetes can enjoy the
best life has to offer.'
The #livingdiabetestogether campaign
highlights the real relationships between
diabetes nurses and their patients living
with diabetes. In acknowledgement
of the important role nurses have in
diabetes care, the campaign will featured
patient stories as told by nurses. For more

You were invited!
Each year the World Health Organisation
(WHO) hosts World Diabetes Day (WDD)
on 14 November, as it's the birth date of
Frederick Banting, who helped discover
the hormone insulin and its use in saving
people's lives who would otherwise have
died from Type 1 diabetes.
For the first time this year, due to
Covid-19, two organisations in the
diabetes sector came together to put
an online event together called United
Through Diabetes. This was a free online
(digital) event from the charity DRWF in
collaboration with commercial partner
Diabetes Professional Care (DPC). It
included a virtual exhibition space with
specialist healthcare professionals and
ancillary diabetes suppliers able to interact
with participants, answer questions and
demonstrate specialist kit and devices.
There were 20 different expert speakers
on the programme as well as guest
panels, exhibitors, and chat rooms.
Sue Marshall, Desang Diabetes
Magazine's editor was invited to take part
and commented after the event, said:
"Like many people, I've only just started
using the internet for 'attending' events
online, and while at first it seemed a tad
intimidating to take part, it really was worth
it. It was lovely to see folk that I know and
listen to talks and watch webinars. I didn't
even have to leave home. I hope they do
it again next year as so many people can
attend for free and learn about diabetes
care and devices."
This year for WDD 2020 publishing
company Planet Media produced a
newspaper supplement and website.

with diabetes care and looking forward to
the research momentum building in the
future looking at current advances in the
field, and asking -- How far could we be
away from the next breakthrough or cure?
