It's been a learning curve (it's all about
curves these days), with many of us
finally taking part in our first remote
clinic appointment or calling a GP from
our homes using a video call. Some of
us might have been pleasantly surprised
by the experience and saved time on
the visit by not having to travel to it. It is
the new normal, at least for now. Here's
a round-up of what companies and
services in the diabetes healthcare sector.
I can personally attest to the great work
being done on our behalves.
Additionally, many have redoubled
efforts to improve self-care from home.
Virtual learning that had only really been
whispered about has in fact turned out to
be vital in keeping services going. Staying
connected for our diabetes health (and
arguably our mental health too), is the new
normal. From video GP appointments to
'remote pump starts', it's all go right now.
So dive in, if you can find the time!
LIBRE LINK VIDEO
Marketing manager Shona Edwards tells
us, "At Abbott we are always trying to
keep one step ahead, continually working
to advance glucose monitoring. We have
had a product update to LibreView which
has launched a new feature helping
people connect and share their glucose
data with their healthcare professional
directly through the app making it so
quick and easy.
"The Connect to a Practice FreeStyle
LibreLink app feature allows users to
easily share their glucose data with their
healthcare team's LibreView account,
even at times when you can't physically
meet. Via LibreView, their healthcare team
is able to see their glucose data as they
scan with their FreeStyle Libre system. If
you use the FreeStyle LibreLink app this
data is automatically transferred. If you
use a FreeStyle Libre reader, upload your
data using the yellow cable provided.

NOTE: If any company is missing here it's
because we did not give them enough
warning to be able contribute and we
will do coverage in the next issue. We'd
usually list things alphabetically but there's
so much info here, we've not stuck too
strickly to that here.
Pumps & CGMs
Diabetes Technology Network (DTN-UK),
an association of medical practitioners
with specialties in diabetes care has been
in contact with all companies supplying
insulin pump, continuous glucose
monitoring and flash glucose monitoring
in the UK at this time. The network has
confirmed, "We can reassure all users of
diabetes technology that none of these
companies are anticipating significant
interruptions to their supply chain due
to the Coronavirus crisis. We would ask
that people do not attempt to stockpile
supplies of consumables as this is
unnecessary and may create problems for
other users. If demand remains as normal,
there will be no shortages. Companies
may experience short term supply
problems with some items, as is usual,
but if this occurs these are expected to
resolve quickly. You will be contacted in
the event that this situation changes.
"For insulin pump users whose
warranties are due to expire soon, the
companies involved have agreed that
warranties will be extended. For Omnipod,
Insulet have stated that users requiring
a replacement PDM will be assisted
regardless of manufacturing warranty,
with any replacement issued being of the
same model currently being used. DTN
are very grateful for these commitments,
which will allow users to continue to
benefit from insulin pump therapy without
needing to attend appointments for a
pump upgrade."
