Recommendations
A new global reference website designed
to provide recommendations for people
with diabetes during the COVID-19 has
been developed as part of a campaign
spearheaded by JDRF and Beyond Type 1.
CoronavirusDiabetes.org brings
together leaders of the global diabetes
community, issuing guidelines for people
to follow. While we know not everyone with
diabetes - Type 1 or Type 2 - has the
same level of risk, the recommendations
- endorsed by the American Diabetes
Association, Harvard Medical School and
The International Society for Pediatric
and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) -
target broad changes in behaviour from
everyone in the diabetes community to
protect those who are the most at risk.
The site, available in different
languages, also includes a variety of
other articles, downloadable graphics,
videos and links to additional resources
provided by JDRF, Beyond Type 1, and
other partners.

Changing tech
Diabetes companies are adapting in
response to the pandemic. To help
diagnose fevers in potential cases of
Covid-19, the sugarBEAT CGM is being
repurposed as a continuous temperature
monitor (CTM). The device, by Nemaura
Medical, has an in-built temperature
sensor that can continuously track body
temperature through the skin, which could
help in the battle against coronavirus. This
comes as Google's Verily also recently
announced plans to develop a small bodyworn
temperature patch that transmits
data to a phone app to notify users of
fever and support the early diagnosis of
viral infections. The sugarBEAT app is
designed for glucose monitoring on smart
devices and is set to be repurposed for
temperature measurement to match with
the sugarBEAT patch.
