Accu-Chek Combo
As the name suggests, the Combo
combines an Accu-Chek Aviva Expert
blood test meter which doubles as a
handset that controls the pump. An easy
menu lets you set up a system of insulin
delivery suited to your needs, using the
handset to tell the pump what insulin to
deliver, done via Bluetooth technology
from the handset. Blood test results are
stored in the separate meter and can
be viewed in a variety of ways (graphs,
averages). The meter lists and graphs
your blood test results as well as your
insulin doses. There is an on-board bolus
calculator in the meter and the colour
screen makes understanding readings
easier. The Combo pump is waterproof to
a depth of 2.5m for 60 minutes.
Accu-Chek Insight (pictured)
The Accu-Chek Insight insulin pump
therapy system includes the option of
using a prefilled insulin cartridge, one of
several aspects that add to the ease of
use, safe handling and discreetness.
Like the Accu-Chek Combo, there are
two main components: the Accu-Chek
Insight insulin pump and a handset
(the Accu-Chek Aviva Insight diabetes
manager). The diabetes manager offers
blood glucose monitoring, a built-in
clinically proven bolus advisor with data
management on-the-go as well as an
remote control function for the insulin
Ypsomed Ltd
Brand: MyLife
Pump name: Ypsopump
Sensor augmented: Yes
Colour display: No.
Careline: 24/7, 0344 856 7820
The development team of the mylife
YpsoPump designed an insulin pump
which focuses on essential functions.
It has an icon-based touchscreen for
intuitive operation and is a small (78mm
x46mm x16mm) and light-weight (around
80g) device for discreet and comfortable
wearing. It uses pre-filled cartridges
for quick and convenient changes and
includes Bluetooth integration for wireless
connection to the MyLife software and
app. Small and lightweight, the pump
requires the user to have little training,
being designed to be easy to operate.
The icon-based menu allows for intuitive
operation via an OLED touchscreen
(41mm x16mm), and it can handle
immersion in water to a depth of 1m for
up to 60 minutes. It features 30 years
Swiss medical engineering. It also works
with the MyLife Unio Neva blood glucose
meter, which can advise on boluses.
The MyLife Cloud allows you to
share data with your HCP. The open
platform system allows for integration
of other devices, for example the bolus
calculator app allows you to to manually
enter a blood test result from any other
device, so any can be used alongside the
Ypsopump system, allowing you to chose
which meter to use, or CGM, if you wish.

pump. Once placed under clothing, there
is no need to take out the insulin pump
for the rest of the day as boluses can be
given discreetly via the handset. Ease
of use can contribute to an improved
personalised diabetes management
by making self-management easier to
undertake in everyday life. The on-board
bolus advisor has been clinically proven to
reduce HbA1c over time. With three bolus
types available, different boluses can run
in parallel if needed (e.g. an extended
bolus for dinner and then standard bolus
for desert). There are other settings that
help users with visual impairment or who
are hard of hearing. The Insight pump,
which is worn on the body, is waterproof
to a depth of 1.3m for 60 minutes (the
handset is not waterproof).
While neither pump is currently sensor
augmented, Roche Diabetes Care in
the UK now distributes Senseonic's
Eversense implantable CGM.
