These days, Gordon has
restaurants in London (The
Providores and Tapa Room in
Marylebone) and Auckland (Bellota
and The Sugar Club). He has written
eight books and contributed to
a dozen others. He has appeared
numerous times on British television
(including Saturday Kitchen, Sunday
Brunch and with Nigel Slater and
Jamie Oliver. He is consultant chef
for Air New Zealand and established
the annual "Who's Cooking Dinner?"
event in the UK, which has raised
millions for leukaemia research. In
2009 he was awarded an ONZM
(Officer of the New Zealand Order of
Merit - the NZ equivalent of an OBE)
for services to the food industry,
presented by Her Majesty the Queen
at Windsor Castle.

Pumpkin, ginger, chickpea and
cheese soup
A classic north African dish, this shakshouka is given a meaty make over (it's
traditionally vegetarian) by Peter Gordon. The lamb can simply be omitted if
you wish. It's usually served in the dish you cook it in.
