Sue Marshall
Never thought I'd be writing this editorial, but here we go.
As ever, there's lots of news in this issue and plenty on
food too. It's heartening to know there's so much going
on in diabetes care, and that despite food sometimes
challening our blood glucose control, in the main it's something we can enjoy.
Then along came the coronavirus as as I write this it's been a couple of weeks
since people with diabetes were told they were 'high risk' and must expect
to self-isolate for 12 weeks. I'm obviously no expert on the coronavirus or
the respiratory illness it causes, Covid-19. The NHS (and the BBC) have both
stepped up to the challenge as national public health service and public
broadcaster and social media has come into its own, spreading the word that
locking down means saving lives. It might be a bit of a bore, but it could be a
lot worse. As a digital publication, we'll keep doing our thing. We have a few
pages on things to do with staying safe at home in a feature on p.18. In other
news, a new 'artificial pancreas' app has been launched, and we talk to the
makers of the soon-to-be-release sugarBEAT sensor for T2s. Congrats also to
the chaps at Carbs&Cals, celebrating 10 years since starting the idea up. All of
these initiatives took perseverance. And persevere is something we all must do
for the near future. Stay home, and stay well.
