Type 1 Toubkal Trek
A further explanation of the
determination (the why) the location
(the where) and the who of this intrepid
undertaking.
Chief explorer and instigator Pete Davies explains, "As
well as supporting us, you can join us as we take on
an extraordinary challenge to summit Mount Toubkal,
the highest peak in North Africa, standing at 4,167
meters (13,671 ft) above sea level. We begin our trek on
2 October 2024.
"Our diverse group of 15 adventurers, ranging
from 20 to 70 years old, includes individuals who have
been living with type 1 diabetes for periods spanning
from one year to almost 68 years since diagnosis.
In a remarkable celebration of life and resilience,
this long-term team member will be marking his
70th birthday on the summit of Mount Toubkal. This
milestone not only showcases the indomitable spirit
of those living with Type 1 diabetes but also serves as
a powerful reminder that age and chronic conditions
need not limit our dreams and achievements.
For those with Type 1 diabetes, insulin is not simply
a medication - it's a lifeline that must be carefully
managed every single day without ever having a break.
By supporting our climb, you'll be contributing to
vital research for better treatments and, ultimately, a
cure. Every step we take on this journey - culminating
in my birthday celebration - represents hope for a
future where insulin is accessible for all, management
is simpler, and a cure is within reach.
Together, we can reach new heights in the challenges
posed by Type 1 diabetes and make a real difference
in the lives of those who depend on insulin every day.
Your support, no matter how big or small, will make a
lasting impact on the Type 1 diabetes community, and
help us turn this exciting challenge into a beacon of
hope for all. Thank you!"
