A Concerted Effort
A quick overview of the DRWF United Through
Diabetes event 2024. By Sue Marshall
United Through Diabetes is
an annual event held by the
charity Diabetes Research
and Wellness Foundation
(DRWF). Unlike most exhibitions
about diabetes care, this not just for
healthcare professionals (though
they are welcome too), but for those
actually living with the condition.
It's a space to meet each other, meet
suppliers, talk about diabetes kit
and learn a little about the world of
diabetes self-care.
The event's lead organiser is
Lee Calladine, who told us after
the event, "We were delighted to
return to Warwickshire for this
year's United Through Diabetes and
welcome experts from across the UK
diabetes community to join us join
us, as well as DRWF colleagues from
Sweden, France and the USA.
"The day was an explosion of
knowledge, expertise, practical skills,
personal experiences, research
updates, product demonstrations
and interactive activities for all ages.
It really was a 'one-stop-shop' of
diabetes all under one roof. This
year even more people attended
with more than 350 people living
with diabetes and 150 speakers,
sponsors and exhibitors from across
the NHS, health charities, screening
teams and leading technology and
diagnostic companies."
One talk given was by Pete
Davies, who has been living with
Type 1 diabetes for 67 years, no less.
Not only was his talk interesting,
but he had a range of 'kit' that he
has collected over the nearly seven
decades he has been managing it.
You can read an article about his
presentation on p.tk.
Calladine agreed saying, "Pete's
talk was very inspirational. The
