NOVEMBER
We don't often look at the darker sides
of living with diabetes, but then we can't
continually ignore the realities in case the
information we bring helps someone. In
this issue we looked the link between
diabetes and depression (cover, left and
feature, top left next page). The news
pages featured an ultra-snazzy new
pump - the iPump -- which even has
a touchscreen (though currently only
available in the US, it will come our way
eventually). Making Carbs Count looked
at the plentiful bounty of beans (opposite,
centre).
OCTOBER
Oh yes, the contentious world of chocolate
(below). So central to debates about
weight, well-being and glucose control.
The darker the better is the general rule, we
discovered. Main lesson: check the labels
for carb content as bars vary widely. Also,
there was an interview with pilot Douglas
Cairns about his fight to stay flying after his
diagnosis of diabetes. Making Carbs Count
was a focus on the apex of autumnal fruits,
the mighty apple (top right).
