Social media graphics about WDD
So, while it seems like the world is
being driven by social media, which
for all its downside, can also have
upsides including getting positive
messages out there. Many individual
people as well as organisations
and corporations put forward an
image containing diabetes facts,
stats and statements. T1D and
blogger Weronika Burkot did a lovely
illustration: this is not diabetes, this is
diabetes (above). Also spotted: insulin
is not a cure, it's life support. JDRF
reposted the research stat about
people with diabetes having to make
up to 180 more decisions a day than
non-diabetics. Diabetes diagnostics
company Menarini choose to depict
images of various bits of diabetes
management equipment over time
(all pictured right). As part of the
IDF's input for WDD was to reflect
again in the very recent centenary
of the discovery of insulin with it's
infographic, Insulin100 (below - click
on it to download it as a PDF).
IDF is leading a three-year World Diabetes Day campaign to increase
access to diabetes care, and highlight the need for more action to
prevent diabetes and its complications.

Insulin at 100
A life-saving discovery but
more remains to be done
Nearly 500 million people are currently living with
diabetes worldwide. Without action, the figure
could rise to 700 million within the next 25 years.
This potentially debilitating chronic condition
can lead to life-threatening complications when
left untreated and an early death.
