QiC Winners 2024
The Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes National Awards
2024 is where NHS and professional organisations
teams and individuals are recognised and honoured
for their innovative practices.
These awards demonstrate
quality in diabetes
management, education
and services for people with
diabetes and their families and/
or carers. Some of the highlights of
these awards are the tremendous
dedication from all the teams and
individuals across the country in their
aim to improve care and the unique
opportunity to share award-winning
case studies to NHS for the ultimate
benefit of all people with diabetes.
A QiC award means an initiative
has been recognised by the NHS,
patients and industry as improving
the quality of life for people living

There are so many wonderful
teams and individuals that have been
recognised at the award and what
follows are some of the amazing
winners and individual awards from
this year
Spotlight on
Education
Birmingham Women's and Children's
Foundation Trust scooped the
winning award for the popular
category Diabetes Education
Programmes for People with Diabetes
and also won the Judges' Special
Award with their entry "Equality
and equity are two different things"
Implementation and Evaluation
of a Hybrid Educational Model for
Automated Insulin Delivery Systems
at Birmingham Children's Hospital"
The judges' comments read "This
winning entry had clear aims and
objectives, and it solved a problem.
An extremely positive project,
which was innovative and refreshing
especially as it clearly was designed
with equality in mind. It stood out
with its thought-provoking design
and the judges loved it!"
Peer support for T1Ds
League of Diabetes won the Peer
Support category with their entry
Camp for Adults with Type 1 Diabetes
by League of Diabetes. The League
of Diabetes (LOD) Camp for adults
with type 1 diabetes is a 3-day
residential that includes outdoor
activities, educational sessions, and
opportunities to hear stories from
others living with T1D. Organized
by Diathlete charity, the camp aims
to foster a supportive community
for adults managing T1D. The first
camp for young adults was held in
2019. In 2024 the camp is expecting
50 people, and we have teamed up
with local NHS teams. After the
camp, some participants discussed
and start diabetes technology,
and experienced improvement in
acceptance and reduced feelings
of loneliness.
Judges commented, "Diathlete's
work was fresh and new. It had
excellent innovation and was
immersive, with strong equality
and diversity elements. It was also
brilliant to see the programme was
picked up by young adults, a tough
group to reach. Overall, well thought
