Skin tested
These are the results of the Desang Diabetes
Magazine survey in association with CliniMed
about skin issues related to wearing diabetes tech.
Thank you to all these who took part.
The survey was completed by
a total of 478 respondents,
74% of whom had Type 1
diabetes, 20% had Type 2
diabetes. 3% had Type 3 diabetes,
LADA or MODY diabetes and another
3% lived or cared for someone with
diabetes.
The survey was distributed to
readers of Desang Diabetes Magazine
during September and October 2025
(closing date was 10 November 2025).
Responses were entirely voluntary,
no prizes were given, though
respondents had the opportunity to
get a sample of CliniMed's medical
adhesive remover or barrier film.
CGM Sensors
As many as 95% of the survey sample
currently wore a CGM sensor.
A number of survey questions
looked at the use of alcohol swabs in
association with CGM sensors: while
as many as 62% of the survey sample
used an alcohol swab to clean the
skin before attaching a CGM, 95%
reported that their CGM pack did not
include alcohol swabs.
Many of the respondents reported
issues when removing the CGM
sensor: 78% claimed that they always
or sometimes found it difficult to
remove their CGM, and a large
majority reported changes to the
skin as a result of wearing the sensor.
Most of these (64%) stated that they
had experienced redness, but a
significant number also complained
of itchiness (49%) or lumps and
bumps at the site (28%).
As many as 19% even stated that
they had experienced some bleeding.
While as many as 62%
of the survey sample
used an alcohol swab
to clean the skin
before attaching a
CGM, 95% reported
that their CGM
pack did not include
alcohol swabs.
