New CGM released, Dexcom ONE+, aimed at people
with Type 2 diabetes.
New research by diabetes
management technology
provider Dexcom has
revealed that nearly
half (42%) of Type 2 patients and
their caregivers struggle with
mental health* with anxiety (61%)
and depression (52%) being the
most commonly reported mental
health effects of living with Type
2. The research also found 54% of
people wish they could gain more
confidence and control in managing
their diabetes.
*Dexcom and Censuswide
online survey of people living with
diabetes (Type 2, their caretakers and
healthcare practitioners), conducted
in the UK in 2024.
This and other findings are in the
first Dexcom State of Type 2 Report,
providing a first-ever comprehensive
look at the feelings and preferences
of people living with Type 2, as well
as their caregivers and healthcare
professionals.
Additional report highlights include:
• Understanding at diagnosis: Nearly
half (49%) of individuals with Type
2 diabetes were unaware of the
condition's effects when diagnosed.
• Mental + physical health challenges:
63% are encountering difficulties in
managing their diabetes, including
challenges related to mental health
or improving their diet.
• Technological advancements:
While only 9% of patients and
caregivers fully understand
what a CGM system is - and
70% are unaware its available on
prescription for some people with
Type 2 - most know that it will help
improve their lives with diabetes:
in fact, 40% say being able to see
glucose numbers in real time and
having access to CGM would have
the most positive effect on their
Type 2 diabetes or that of the
person they care for.
To further help improve the lives
of people with Type 2 - especially
in light of these crucial findings -
Dexcom is releasing a new CGM
device called Dexcom ONE+.
Dexcom ONE+ was developed
based on feedback from consumers
and healthcare professionals
and specifically fits the needs of
people living with Type 2 diabetes.
For example, it offers the most
flexible wear and has the highest
waterproof rating.
Available in early June, Dexcom
ONE+ is also great for those with
Type 1 diabetes and is available
on prescription via the NHS for
some people.
So, what's new?
Diabetes psychology consultant and
chair of UK Diabetes Psychology
Network Dr Rose Stewart has
commented on the launch of
DexcomONE+ and the Dexcom State
of Type 2 Report. She says, "I'm a big
fan of the new Dexcom ONE+ sensor
as the company has made some small
changes that I think will have clear
benefits for new users.
"Going on CGM is a fairly big
deal if you are not that familiar with
it. The Type 1 population has had
access to it for the last few years so
have a higher awareness of what it is,
and how it can help, but the sudden
availability of a lot of blood glucose
data can be overwhelming, even
for them. To the Type 2 population,
CGMs are less well known.
"As we have found out, through
people wearing blood glucose
sensors, everyone goes a little high
after they have eaten, even people
