Diabetes supplies Ukraine
A resource has been created by JDRF UK in association with JDRF
International, JDRF Australia and the Beyond Type 1 Alliance. It will be
updated as more information becomes available.
People with diabetes in Ukraine will need help, whether they are
remaining behind, travelling to safer areas within the country, or
crossing the borders.
Beyond Type 1 and JDRF have been working with those in Ukraine
as well as other global organisations, such as the International Diabetes
Federation (IDF) and World Health Organisation (WHO), to better
understand how our community can help. Our answer to this question
will change as the situation evolves, so check back frequently.
Right now, one of the best ways to support people inside Ukraine
appears to be a collaboration between the UK's Disaster Emergency
Committee Ukraine Appeal, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the USA's
Direct Relief (a large-scale humanitarian agency), and the International
Diabetes Federation (IDF). They are working closely together to
understand where supplies are short, secure donations within Europe,
and open up 'green corridors' within Ukraine to deliver them quickly to
where they're needed.
They have asked those who wish to help to donate either to the
Disaster Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal or to Direct Relief and
direct your donation to "Ukraine Crisis."

IDDT appeal
for help for
Ukraine
The InDependent Diabetes Trust
(IDDT) has been contacted by people
in Ukraine in need of diabetes medical
supplies.
The charity's CEO Martin Hirst told
us, "The Independent Diabetes Trust
started an appeal to send diabetes
supplies at the start of March and with
the support of its members managed
to send its first aid shipment on 9
March and will be in a position to
send a second shipment by Monday 21
March. The response we have had has
been amazing.
"IDDT has always supported all
people with diabetes, and this is one
of the most important appeals we have
had to make. We have joined forces
with other organisations to do our
best to help to get supplies to where
they are needed as quickly and safely
as possible. For people living with
diabetes in Ukraine, life is becoming
more and more difficult with each day
that passes. We are also now in contact
with orphanages where children with
diabetes are in need of insulin and
other diabetes supplies."
The following items are needed.
They must be new, unused and
in-date:
• Insulin in pens, vials or cartridges
• Insulin syringes
• Blood glucose meters and test strips
• Lancets and lancet devices
• Glucagon
• Hypo treatments - packets of Jelly
babies for example
If you can help with any of these
items, please send them to IDDT at the
following address: IDDT, 210 Abington
Avenue, Northampton, NN1 4PR

we then take a six-minute rest (which
again is adaptable) and once recovered,
we repeat the circuit all over again."
Stephenson-Grey took part in the
London 2012 Olympics Games torch
relay and still trains (prior to lockdown) at
the track and in the gym. The exercises
she does include standing squats, pressups, the
plank, lunges, the superman
pose (when the opposite arm and leg are
stretched out) and sit ups.
She says, "This type of fitness session
is inspired by the type of session I've often
done with my training group over the
years, particularly at the start of the winter
or summer training season, as it helps
build strength and fitness as a foundation
to move onto other things. It works the
arms, legs and core areas throughout
the session, which can be helpful when
training a lot, because no one area is
necessarily over-worked or strained."
The home workout videos have been
accepted by many in the community.
She adds, "I'm sharing what training
sessions work for me. Please remember
that you know your own fitness, health
and diabetes best. Seek medical advice
if you are concerned about undertaking
physical activity."
