Ethnic T2Ds needed for research project
Priscilla Katapa is conducting a
research project as a PhD student
at the University of Leicester
Department of Population Health
Sciences (under the supervision
of Professor Pratik Choudhary). It
is sponsored by the University of
Leicester and funded by National
Institute for Health Research,
Allied Research Collaboration East
Midlands (NIHR). Priscilla is looking
for individuals to participate in
her current study that on explores
experiences of using insulin therapy
in people living with Type 2 diabetes.
Kapata's research aims to identify
barriers and facilitators to insulin
initiation in individuals with Type
2 diabetes from ethnic minority
backgrounds. Participants should
either currently be using insulin or
have been offered insulin in the past.
The study involves three main groups:
1. Healthcare professionals managing
Type 2 diabetes in ethnic
populations.
2. Individuals from ethnic minority
backgrounds with Type 2 diabetes
who have accepted insulin
treatment.
3. Individuals from ethnic minority
backgrounds who have either
declined insulin treatment or have
not been offered it.
She explains, "Participation in the
research will involve a 45-minute
interview, which can be conducted
in person, over the telephone, or via
video link. Your contribution to this
important study will help improve
understanding and treatment of
Type 2 diabetes in ethnic minority
communities.
"Please help spread the word, and
feel free to share this opportunity
with anyone you think might be
interested in participating. The aim of
this project is to investigate whether
individuals from ethnic minorities
with Type 2 Diabetes are being
offered insulin as the most effective
treatment option for achieving
optimal control of their condition.
We seek to understand whether the
decision to offer insulin is influenced
by assumptions or other factors,
such as disparities in healthcare
access sometimes referred to as a
'postcode lottery'."
