Editor's Comment: Amusingly,
when we met, we exchanged 'war
stories' about the impact diabetes
has had on us physically; literally
what is done to our bodies. Both
of us admitted that we've had
retinopathy. Clarke has had his
cataracts done whereas I've been
advised that I have cataracts that
I will need to address at some
point soon. We've both had two
frozen shoulders - both sides -
and trigger finger releases. He
'won' on that one, as he's had all
his fingers done, whereas I've
had three. However, I've had
carpel tunnerl releases on both
wrists. So maybe we're even!
We laughed at the idea of other
dinners wondering what we were
talking about over lunch while we
showed our scars to each other! -

couple of hours every day. Currently
he still injects using prefilled
cartridges and insulin pens, but he
does want a closed loop system.
Pursuant of that, he's been asked to
undertake various online courses in
the summer of 2023. He says, "At the
time they said it 'shouldn't be too
long now', but I've had no word yet
and it's now early 2024."
We wish him luck and will report
back on his progress in future issues.
